ALIN Partnership with Ministry of Environment and Forestry

ALIN is working with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry through the USAID/UNDP funded Low emission and Climate Resilient Development (LECRD) Project to enhance knowledge sharing on climate change innovations and practices through business and information centres and a knowledge management system.

Part of the work involve the construction, equipping and operationalisation of Samburu Community Education, Business and Information Centre (CEBIC) in Lesidai, Samburu County. The centre will offer renewable energy demo and services; community library; climate information; ICT services, building technology demonstration; and conference facilities and edutainment.

ALIN is also transforming its experiences in ICT and Knowledge Management by working with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry through the LECRD Project to enhance information exchange among various sector players in the climate change arena through the Kenya Climate Change Knowledge Portal.

The portal is a one-stop repository of climate change information in Kenya and will link climate change actors across various sectors and their initiatives by providing a platform to address issues relating to climate change.

Through the portal, Kenyans can find information related to climate change adaptation, finance, Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV), capacity building, policies and strategies and low emission development actions. One can also access information about various initiatives by both the government and civil society and private sector players in climate change.

ALIN East Africa and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry through the LECRD Project is also producing the Joto Afrika publication which draws together and summarised lessons, experiences and practical information on low emission and climate change adaptation actions in Kenya.

Joto Afrika, meaning “Africa is feeling the heat’ in Kiswahili is a series of printed briefings and online resources about low emission and climate change adaptation actions. The series helps people understand the issues, constraints, and opportunities that they face in adapting to climate change and escaping poverty.
